PAL - Phase Alternating Line
The PAL format was developed by Walter Bruch in Germany and was first introduced in 1967 and is often credited with having the most exact color reporduction. PAL also has a higher resolution that NTSC but with less frames/sec (25) is more prone to flicker. Variations of PAL include PAL-M and PAL-N.
